Les Beaujolais primeurs

Beaujolais primeur Origine Vieilles Vignes

Beaujolais primeur Origine Vieilles Vignes

This quite atypical Beaujolais Nouveau made using grapes from old vines, is the expression of the Gamay grape at its purest. A very ‘winy’ cuvée, which is all grape and never chaptilised. Dark robe, structured and fleshy on the palate with very ripe black and red berry flavours. This is a top of the range cuvée with character. It is sure to reconcile anybody with Beaujolais Nouveau who’s been disappointed in the past. The complexity of the mouthfeel makes this a true wine that can improve over the winter and be enjoyed right through the summer.

Personality of the cuvée

This was the first ever cuvée of non-chaptalised Beaujolais Nouveau made using grapes from old vines. The original was in 1988, elaborated in collaboration with Les Caves Legrand in Paris. Since then it has been much emulated. Pierre-Marie, side by side with some highly qualified tasters, carries out the assembly of a selection of cuvées made using grapes from old vines that are concentrated while remaining sufficiently open for the fruit to express itself to the full on ‘D’ day. A job requiring great skill!

From the vine to the glass

4 hectares of Gamay in Saint Vérand. The south-west facing vines are 35 to 85 years old and grow in dark granite soil, which gives depth to this cuvée. Integrated vinegrowing techniques, pruning is universal cordon and Guyot, manual harvest at full ripeness. Traditional semi-carbonic Beaujolais vinification, 5-day maceration in cement and stainless steel vats, minimum SO2, pneumatic pressing, never chaptilised Maturing: 1 month in old oak tuns

Matching it with food
